India and Hungary have on Friday agreed to extend their co-operation in developing new varieties of wheat to step up grain production.
"We discussed with Hungarian team regarding extending co-operation in developing new varieties, especially wheat," Indian Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said after meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, József Gráf.
Gráf said productivity of grain was very high in Hungary. "We are keen to extend our co-operation with India in this area."
"We are ushering in the second green revolution through knowledge-based and market-friendly interventions. The main objective is to increase productivity," The Hindu cited Pawar as saying.
India also proposed to have co-operation in agricultural research and technology, food processing, agro infrastructure, post harvest management and horticulture. It was also decided to further strengthen links between the G.B. Pant Agriculture University and Universities and Centres in Kaposvár, Gödöllõ and Eger in Hungary.
