NEW BIRD FLU IN BENGAL.
Indian government health and veterinarian workers on Friday, began the mass slaughter of birds affected with the H5N1 bird flu virus.
This is the fourth state in West Bengal since 2007, to be affected, there have been 60,000 birds slaughtered so far.
Surendra Gupta, a Ministry of Agriculture spokesman, said " We has sent out 30 teams of men to slaughter birds in the village where the infected poultry were found".
There have been hundreds of thousands of ducks, chickens and geese slaughtered, in the north eastern regions of India.
According to the World Health Organization, the epidemic that is currently sweeping through Asia is one of the worse on record. Their have been close to 400 people infected since 2003, when the epidemics began to re-appear in the region.
