Industry Success As Dairy UK Delivers Early New Legislation‏
Dairy UK has scored a significant success for the Dairy Industry, delivering new legislation ahead of schedule in co-operation with the Food Standards Agency.
European legislation to allow the protein content of milk powder to be standardised would have been introduced in the UK by August, but a special request from Dairy UK to the Food Standards Agency has resulted in publication now.
The legislation is designed to produce global consistency in the protein content of powdered milk and ensure that neither producers nor consumers are disadvantaged. The major use of powdered milk today is as a food ingredient, particularly in confectionery.
Dairy UK's Technical Director Dr Ed Komorowski, said "We are delighted that the Food Standards Agency have listened to our request, and speeded up the implementation of this legislation. It is an outstanding example of Government achieving real time delivery to the customer in partnership with the Industry."
