Integrated farming for better livelihood of farmers

Integrated farming including crops, livestock, horticulture and fisheries should be promoted among poor farmers and multiple income generating activities among landless labourers for ensuring better livelihood for them.

This was one of the recommendations of a four-day international seminar on ’Strategies for improving livelihood security of rural poor’ organised recently at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research complex, Ela, at Goa. Several technical sessions, eight lead papers and around 200 other papers were presented under various themes.

Dr V Veerabhadriah, general secretary of International Society of Extension Education, said that based on the papers presented, several useful recommendations were drafted which would help in developing appropriate strategies by the central and state governments in India and elsewhere in the world for improving livelihood security of rural poor.
