High standards in 7th beef carcase competition

ENTRIES FROM all over Wexford and also surrounding counties in the south-east was a feature of the 7th annual Beef Carcase competition organised by Slaney Foods International in Bunclody recently, with many locals prominent in getting the nod from the adjudicators..

However, while Slaney herdowners dominated in the daily winners’ section, all but one in the Supreme Champions’ event were from other counties.

The week-long event concluded with a prizegiving dinner in the Mill Race Hotel in Bunclody, with a total prizefund of €6,500 distributed at the function.

Each daily winner had received €300, with the owners of the Supreme champion scoping an additional €800 each for their efforts. The regular classes of Best Steer, Best Heifer and Best Aberdeen Angus featured in what has become an event of major interest to all involved.

This year, an additional class for Best Carcase presented by Young Farmer (35 years old) was added, and this departure created an extra dimension to the event for everyone. And it was Wexford’s Francis Bennett, from Wellingtonbridge, who took the honours, a feat that earned Francis €500 for himself. Full details: Daily winners Steer Ml.
