Beef and Live Shipping Trade Hit.

Ireland exported 207,000 head of live cattle last year, however this week and last the trade is dead in the water.

Countries have introduced new testing facilities on cattle and Italian importers have asked the Irish shippers to come and collect carcass’s of slaughtered cattle, as supermarkets and shops will not buy the meat.

Beef exports are facing similar problems, after the news last week that 21 farms were contaminated and some 4,000 beef cattle.

This year live shipments of cattle are down to 131,000 cattle, which is not solely the cause of the contamination, which was perhaps the last nail in the coffin.
