JAPAN-Golden Week improves beef demand in Japan
24/04/2009
With the arrival of Golden Week next week (a series of public holidays from 29 April to 6 May), the Japanese trade noted active trading of imported beef in the wholesale market, particularly for barbeque and grilling items. Demand for Japanese Wagyu is also improving, while interest in middle-range items, such as Japanese F1 and Dairy beef, was reportedly low.
On the other hand, beef exports from Australia to Japan were slow to modest with export prices falling slightly from last week due to soft buying, as well as increased production days in Queensland after heavy rains during previous weeks. Trimming prices, however, remain firm, supported by strong hamburger demand from the US and Japan.
