Jim Kennedy makes history in beef carcase championship
IN the Scottish National Fatstock Club carcase awards, farmer and livestock buyer Jim Kennedy of Maybole, Ayrshire, dominated, taking home both the beef and sheep championships and an armful of other trophies.
He made show history when his supreme beef carcase came from an animal that had already been given the overall championship in the live judging at Perth a few days earlier.
The top carcase, from a Belgian Blue cross heifer that weighed 628kg live and 424.2kg deadweight, graded U+4H and killed out at 67.5 per cent.
Mr Kennedy also took home the award for the best Aberdeen-Angus cross carcase with a steer that weighed 625kg live and 443.3kg dead, graded E3 and had a killing out percentage of 70.9 per cent.
