Keep malting barley crops cool

MALTING barley growers are being advised to keep stored crops cool over the festive period to protect quality.

With fusarium, high nitrogen and germination problems throughout the EU causing concern and germination and infestation problems in the UK merchanting business Gleadell is advising growers with malting barley still to sell to look at selling and moving it as soon as possible.

"With premiums for malting barley over £50 per tonne it makes sense to get your barley safely delivered and your money in the bank," said Gleadell malting barley director Stuart Shand.
