KENYA MEAT COMMISSION.

The meat industry of Kenya, was one of the most important in the world for many years, with Leibig and Bovril Estates, being the main players and running operations from London.

The technology from Argentina was taken to Kenya, for the processing of beef extract and corned beef, however in the early eighties both companies ceased operations in Kenya.

The Kenya Meat Commission, re-opened the export beef plants three years ago with big plans of re-living these splendid glory days of years gone by. However they have not only failed to meet the grandiose expectations, the company has disappointed suppliers , customers and export markets alike.

Lack of management and expertise, were the contributing factors along with the fact that the industry had changed in the 20 years, they had been in the wilderness with no export trade at all. Conditions had also changed and it was not just a case of slaughtering cattle and placing the meat in a box.
