Kenyan Meat Commission in Trouble.

The abattoir and meat plant of the Kenyan Meat Commission at Athi River was re opened two years ago and is the largest plant in the country.

The plant at Athi-River was built by Liebig Beef Extracts in the sixties.

The operators of the plant are having problems sourcing sufficient cattle to keep the plant operating, now they are laying off staff only recruited 2 years ago.

Kenya is reliant on the Middle East and north African markets and cannot export to the EU countries.


Kenya was historically one of the best beef producing counties in Africa.
