Latest technical and marketing guides from Nickerson
Nickerson have published the latest in the company’s series of Technical and Marketing Guides, with a focus on spring-sown pulses.
"The four guides are for Prophet large blue pea, Falstaff marrowfat pea, Fuego spring bean and Memphis spring bean," says Les Daubney, Nickerson oilseeds and pulses product manager. "The guides give pulse growers a summary of yield, agronomic characteristics, disease resistance, grain quality and marketing for each variety in a concise format."
Prophet is the highest-yielding large blue pea on the PGRO Recommended List. The variety has a good combination of agronomic characteristics, including good standing ability and excellent resistance to downy mildew.
Falstaff is a marrowfat pea with high yield potential. It has good canning properties and the potential to attract a premium in the human consumption market.
Fuego is the highest-yielding spring bean on the PGRO 2009 Recommended List. Its smooth, pale skin and pale hilum makes it suitable for the premium export market for human consumption.
Memphis is a high-yielding spring bean suitable for the premium export market. The variety has the highest rating for standing ability on the PGRO Recommended List.
