Levy Board UK moves a step forward with the appointment of new board members

The board members for Levy Board UK have been announced today by Environment Secretary, David Miliband.

The new board will consist of ten members: Chairs for each of the six new sector companies, and four independent members, one of whom is the Chair Designate of Levy Board UK, John Bridge.

The members of Levy Board UK are:

Sector Company Chairs:

Beef and Lamb (England only): John Cross

Cereals and Oilseeds : Jonathan Tipples


Horticulture : John Hall

Milk : Tim Bennett

Pigs (England only) : Stewart Houston

Potatoes : Janet Bainbridge

Independent members:

John Bridge (Chair-Designate of Levy Board UK)

Christopher Bones

Lorraine Clinton

Clare Dodgson

Announcing the appointments, Environment Secretary, David Miliband said:


"This is a significant day for levypayers as they now know who will be responsible for helping to deliver a new levy board structure by April 2008. I am confident that, with the wealth of experience Levy Board UK possesses, they will ensure that levies are raised, and spent, cost effectively. Levy Board UK will be in a good position to assist the industry in meeting future challenges."

In welcoming his new board members John Bridge said:

"This is a very strong team which will ensure that Levy Board UK makes a difference: a difference which will be felt by levy payers and which will drive significant efficiencies through key sectors of the agricultural and horticultural industries."

The new board will meet for the first time on 5 and 6 March.
