Hull-based Cranswick Lazenby's has won the contract to supply Sainsbury's with fresh organic pork for the supermarket's SO Organic range.
Matt Johnson, organic meat buyer for Sainsbury's states: "We are delighted to extend our working relationship with Cranswick Lazenby's. Like Sainsbury's, the company is focused on innovation, quality and service and the products are extremely good!"
Sainsbury's SO organic fresh pork will be on sale for Organic Fortnight (2nd September – 17th September). Look out for boneless loin steaks, tenderloin fillet, and plain and flavoured sausages.
This pork supplied by Cranswick Lazenby's complies with the Soil Association Organic Standards to ensure that customers can be completely happy that the pork they are eating is truly organic. The pigs' welfare is paramount and there are strict guidelines with regards to stock density, housing and handling to ensure the pigs have a happy and stress-free lifestyle.
Annabel Summers of Cranswick states: "We are very excited about working with Sainsbury's to drive forward the organic sector of the pork market. The result of being appointed by Sainsbury's means that we are now able to form a three-way partnership between the supermarket, ourselves and organic farmers. We are now able to give organic farmers longer term contracts, thereby benefiting all involved and providing customers with a regular, reliable source of quality organic pork."
The trend for choosing organic has grown so much that research has shown that three quarters of us buy into the Organic lifestyle every year.* (TNS Super-Panel data). To meet this growing demand Sainsbury's re-launched its organic range as Sainsbury's SO organic and is committed to broadening the appeal of and extending its comprehensive range of organic foods. The organic market as a whole has seen significant growth over the past 4 years and is now worth approximately £1.4bn per year. Growth is forecast to continue at an average of 12% per year over the next 3 to 4 years.
