Machinery export success from Chile to Russia
A substantial order for vegetable handling machinery from Russia is the latest export success for Tong Peal.
Their customer Golden Niva at Stavropol in south western Russia is continuing to diversify from pig production into vegetables and looking to Tong Peal to provide machinery for cleaning, grading and packing onions, potatoes and carrots.
The machines will be operational in September and the customer is going to the expense of having the machinery delivered by road and so up to nine trucks will be leaving Lincolnshire for the two-week haul. Due to the size of the crop reception hoppers, two special trucks will be used needing appropriate dispensations as they pass through each country en route.
"Golden Niva will be using the machinery in temporary housing this autumn while it forges ahead with a much larger investment," says Charles Tong, managing director of Tong Peal, of Spilsby, Lincolnshire. "The organisation is planning to become a major vegetable producer for this part of Russia over the next few years."
The machinery includes reception hoppers, vibrating soil extractors, roller graders, and box fillers and tippers, onion toppers, weighers and packaging machinery. Tong Peal engineers will be going to Russia in August to install and commission the machinery for the start of the harvesting period.
With the firm's reputation spreading around the world, another export market is Chile where HAAC CHILE SA are using Tong Peal machinery for handling onions and garlic. Their associate business Sapei, SA is a Valencia-based company which grows and packs onions south of Santiago in Chile. They are major exporters of onions to UK supermarket packers from March to June.
Export sales manager Barry Ledger says a key factor in clinching the deal was the ability to undertake a turnkey operation which involved managing the project from design through to commissioning and after-sales service. "The ability to incorporate four suppliers of machinery from the UK and the USA into one project via our Spanish agent at the other side of the globe required exceptional coordination," says Mr Ledger. "Our project leader Barrie Hutson must take a lot of the credit for the successful conclusion."
"This was our fifth installation in Chile in ten years," adds Mr Ledger. "Our customer is well pleased with the way the machinery has been operating and is planning a further phase of expansion."
