MALAYSIA.
PROBLEMS WITH BY PRODUCTS.
There has been growing concern in Malaysia, at the increasing volumes of meat and bone meal being imported from Europe.
Meat and bone meal, is made up from offal and bones from pigs, cattle and sheep, which is prohibited from being fed to cattle, in most of the western world as a BSE precaution.
Having said this, the product has been fed to chickens and pigs without restriction.
Malaysia has been importing the majority of its product from Germany, which has been declared on the customs documents as minerals, rather that animal by products.
This manipulation of records, was picked up by the Department of Agriculture in Malaysia.
An inquiry has been launched with the German authorities, into how this has occurred.
