INCREASED TOURISM HAS MEANT MORE MEAT IMPORTS.

The Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, has been traditionally a buyer of cow beef and bull beef, normally exported from the European Union carrying third country subsidies.

Last year saw them buying over 4,000 tons of Australian beef and lamb, with a mixture of primal chilled cuts and manufacturing meat.

Mutton shipments were 1,685 tons valued at $5 million. Lamb shipments were 1,804 tons valued at $5.2 million. Beef shipments were 537 tons valued at $5 million.

Offal shipments mainly livers and tripe, were over 1,000 tons valued at $1.4 million.

This is a luxury holiday destination for well heeled Europeans, as well as a favorite stop off point for luxury cruise liners
