McCormick appoints area manager in northern England
• Provides link between UK factory and dealer sales and parts departments
• Helping dealers provide farmers with top tractors and after-sales service
• Impressed with McCormick’s state-of-the-art assembly plant in Doncaster
Farmer’s son Barry Ward (43) has returned to the job he loves – selling tractors – with his appointment as McCormick area manager for northern England. He lives with his wife and three-year old son at Womersley, 10 miles from the McCormick factory between Doncaster and Selby.
“After the family farm was sold, I worked at two different tractor dealerships before moving to an implement manufacturer four years ago,” he explains. “I enjoyed it, but I’m pleased to be back working with tractors again.”
Barry’s retail experience advising farmers on tractor and implement purchases, will be put to good use in his new role supporting McCormick northern England dealers – Rickerby in Cumbria, Northumberland and Co Durham; Wilfred Scruton and Sovereign Agricultural Services in Yorkshire; John Charnley & Sons in Lancashire; Robert H Crawford, DiFuria Group and David Grundy Agricultural in Lincolnshire.
He says: “I’ll be helping these dealers find the best McCormick tractor from our range to suit the different needs of farmers and contractors in this area and generally liaise between the dealer and the factory in Doncaster so that we deliver the after-sales support that farmers expect.”
Given the competitiveness of the tractor industry, Barry says that before agreeing to join the organisation he took soundings about McCormick’s business and visited the assembly plant.
“I was extremely impressed with the Doncaster assembly plant, it really is a state-of-the-art facility,” says Barry. “It now produces some down-to-earth models like the 70-100hp CX but also some of the most advanced tractors that farmers can buy, like the 160-200hp XTX.”
