Israeli Ambassador Moshe Ram has re-stated his government's readiness to assist Nigeria in the mechanisation of agriculture to boost food production. Ram said this when he paid a courtesy visit to Dr Anthony Anuforom, director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
"With renewed relations between Nigeria and Israel in 1992, our focal point has been on agriculture, which is in line with President Umaru Yar'Adua's seven-point agenda.
"I think Nigeria should go back to agriculture; I mean it is quite ridiculous to know that Nigeria still imports rice," he said.
Ram promised that the embassy would continue to assist NIMET in the area of agricultural meteorology, noting that agriculture was weather dependent.
"Part of our experience is to share our knowledge with our African friends, especially Nigeria, because it is one of the most important countries in Africa.
