Mexico-United States poultry ban.

MEXICO-US POULTRY BAN.

Mexico blocked imports of poultry from two Kentucky counties and Singapore banned supplies from the entire state, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.

Mexico , the third-largest importer of U.S. chicken meat, will not accept uncooked poultry products from Edmonson and Grayson counties in Kentucky as of April 7, according to a statement from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Singapore will not import fresh or frozen poultry meat from the state as of April 8, the USDA said in a separate statement today. Singapore will accept heat-treated poultry meat as long as it is heated to 158 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius) for at least 3.5 seconds.

Russia , Japan , Colombia , Ecuador , Taiwan and Hong Kong have imposed similar restrictions on Kentucky poultry following an announcement from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture that a possible case of avian flu was found on a farm that produces eggs for Perdue Farms Inc. The case "poses minimal risk to human health" and may be the mild H7 strain of the virus, the state agriculture department said.
