Minimal grass growth forces cancellation of ScotGrass
Due to minimal grass growth, the ScotGrass event at the SRUC Crichton Royal Farm planned for Tuesday 14 May 2013 has had to be cancelled.
Duncan Russell, Services Manager at event organiser AEA said that sadly the fields intended to host the event had experienced practically no grass growth since Christmas.
"Due to a prolonged period of very cold dry conditions and with no immediate change in weather patterns forecast, no grass growth has been detected at all and recent grass measurements on the farm sadly support this fact."
"We've been talking to the host farmer today and with the planned grass harvesting event to be held in 6 weeks time, we cannot see any way that we would be in a position to offer the companies involved in the event any reasonable crop to harvest," said Russell.
The decision has not been taken lightly with several options being explored before taking the decision to cancel.
All of the exhibitors, who have been incredibly supportive of the event, have now been informed and visitors who have pre-registered for the event will receive a refund.
