More than 1000 horses line up at The Royal County of Berkshire Show

Defending Champion William Funnell will head a line up including some of Britain"e;s leading show jumpers who will take part in next Sunday"e;s Renault Jump League Table Final in the Vodafone Main Arena at The Royal County of Berkshire Show (20-21 September).

Last year, Funnell partnering Cortaflex Amber du Montois enjoyed success in a close fought final winning the top prize of a Renault car.

This year he returns to the Renault final at Newbury with Mondriaan, Billy Birr and Kepi D"e;Elle. Other leading contenders lining up to take the prestigious title include Geoff Luckett, Tina Fletcher, Keith Doyle, Guy Williams, Helen Tredwell and Tracy Priest. Harvey Smith will also have a horse in the final, Saltano, ridden by Laura Stephenson.

The Renault Jump League Series was first introduced last year. With fences set at a challenging 1.50m, the series has caught the imagination of crowds at qualifying county shows across the country this summer. Each class has offered a generous prize fund with the highest placed riders lining up at Newbury to compete for the top prize – Renault"e;s new 4x4 crossover vehicle the "e;Koleos"e;.

Commencing in May at Devon County, the series has progressed through the summer at Bath & West, South of England, Royal Norfolk, Kent County, Royal Lancashire, New Forest & Hampshire and Pembrokeshire en route to the grand finale at The Royal County of Berkshire Show.

Most of Britain"e;s leading show jumpers have entered the series. Points have been awarded to the top eight riders at each event and the highest placed who have qualified to ride at The Royal County of Berkshire Show will parade at the beginning of the class on Sunday afternoon.

The show jumpers will join riders from across the country for the outdoor show season"e;s grand finale which brings together the sports of show jumping, carriage driving and showing and involves more than 1000 horses.

On Saturday the edge-of-seat class will be the Wendy Green Six Bar Show Competition. The contest has been named in memory of the former Chairman of the show"e;s Light Horse committee who sadly died suddenly in January.

The final leg of the Renault Show Jumping League series will be Sunday"e;s feature class.

Pat Parsons, Acting Chairman of the Show"e;s Light Horse Committee, said: "The show jumping classes have proved very popular as have the showing classes. We are fortunate in that The Royal County of Berkshire Show is a very prestigious show and as the final major outdoor competition of the season, everyone wants to come and join the end of season party."

Equestrian enthusiasts will also enjoy The Royal County of Berkshire Show"e;s headline attraction in the Vodafone Main Arena this year – The Household Cavalry"e;s Musical Ride.
