Morocco-Vaccination of cattle.
MOROCCO- - A large vaccination campaign targeting some 175,000 livestock heads has been launched in flood-ravaged areas in the Gharb region (North-West), by the veterinary services of the Office Régional de Mise en Valeur du Gharb (regional office for agricultural development in the Gharb) (ORMVAG).
As part of the efforts aimed at curbing the negative effects of the recent floods on farmers and breeders in the region, this operation aims to vaccinate 150,000 sheep and 25,000 cattle, ORMVAG veterinarian, Abdelhalim Al Halek told MAP.
To help livestock breeders in the flood-stricken areas, ORMVAG also launched, in cooperation with the ministry of agriculture, an urgent operation to distribute 40,000 quintals of barely for free.
The office will also conduct an awareness-raising campaign to encourage farmers to diversify their crops and promote the cultivation of high value added crops in this region, where some 80,000 ha of land have been flooded.
