MP responds to criticism of Supermarket Adjudicator

Responding to a press release issued by the British Retail Consortium criticising the Government’s publication of the draft Grocery Adjudicator Bill MP for West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Constituency of St Ives and Chair of the Grocery Market Action Group Andrew George said:

"If the big supermarkets have nothing to hide they have nothing to fear and everything to gain.

"They have told us that they put their customers’ best interests first. In view of that, they should support the creation of an Adjudicator. Customers would feel more reassured and the good public relations from having the endorsement of an independent regulator will benefit those supermarkets which uphold high standards of trading with their suppliers.

"Of the ten biggest supermarket chains Aldi, Waitrose, and Marks & Spencer have previously publically supported the creation of an Adjudicator."
