New chief veterinary officer appointed to DEFRA

Following an Open Competition, Dr Debby Reynolds BVSc, PhD, MRCVS has been appointed as the next Chief Veterinary Officer.

She will succeed Jim Scudamore BSc, BVSc, MRCVS, who retires on 23 March, 2004. Dr Reynolds is currently Veterinary Director at the Food Standards Agency.

She will chair the Programme Board for Animal Health and Welfare in Defra and become Head of Profession for Government Veterinary Surgeons across Great Britain.
