LAMB NUMBERS DOWN.
Lamb exports from New Zealand this year will be at a 45 year low, as many farmers have made the move from sheep to arable farming.
The export numbers will be 20.4 million lambs, which is a drop of 23% on last year.
These are the lowest numbers since 1963.
The lambs are being taken to a heavier weight this year, for the American market, will help the revenue slightly.
50% of the lamb exports from New Zealand, still go into the European market.
There were large numbers of ewes slaughtered this year and the outcome was inevitable, according to industry sources.
