New Zealand-New cattle market.
NEW ZEALAND.
NEW CATTLE MARKET.
There has been no cattle market in the small town of Matamata, In the Waikato region of New Zealand, for the last 10 years as farmers have chosen to sell their stock direct to the freezer works.
Elders have teamed up with local businessman Ron James, and are opening up the livestock center again, as they believe there is enough local farmer support to warrant a sale yard again.
The new market is going to have a fat and store market, along with a dairy cattle and bobby calf section.
Selling sheep and cattle back on a the live scales seems to be very popular with the local farmers.
As one local farmer said, at the freezer works, if you don’t like the price, you cannot take the animals home again.
