New Zealand see drop in Lamb exports

New Zealand saw lamb exports drop by 16% in the month of November, to 17,311 tons. Mutton exports rose 84% to 4,441 tons, which indicates the heavy ewe slaughtering that is going to affect NZ lamb supplies this season.

Europe which is the main market for NZ lamb, reduced shipments to 6,791 tons as the current European Union quota, is nearly completed.

There was an increase in exports to the Middle East during the month, caused by the festival of Eid al-Adha on December 8.

The value of meat sales, was in fact up from last year in September quarter in New Zealand, however the manufacturing is down by 3% in the country as a whole.

Meat prices were up 10%, while dairy prices fell by 2.5%.
