Newark commits support to farmers

With the county show season fast approaching, Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show organisers are – as usual - committed to supporting local farmers and the agricultural industry through the promotion of its annual show. As before, this year's livestock schedule contains the usual full range of classes for sheep, cattle and pigs.

Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society's chief executive, Adrian Johnston, said: "Like all county shows, agriculture and farming is our raison d'etre and we will fully support all those involved in the industry. These events are the farmers' shop window and we are committed to keeping open the option to exhibit."

Although some show organisers are concerned about the potential effect of government imposed livestock restrictions due to residual outbreaks of Blue Tongue disease, Newark Show, which will be held on 10 & 11 May, understands the need for livestock to be exhibited and will leave the decision to attend to owner discretion.

Mr Johnston continued: "We will closely monitor the Blue Tongue situation for restriction on movement but we remain confident that livestock classes will proceed albeit, potentially, with lower numbers."
