Next generation breeding management tool for ewes

Intervet's Chronogest sheep sponges have been discontinued and will be replaced with the next generation of intravaginal sponges – Chronogest® CR.

The new sponges contain a uniquely micronised form of the active ingredient (cronolone) which gives a controlled release of hormone into the bloodstream. When administered during the breeding season, the sponges quickly block oestrus in all sheep, regardless of their production status or season. Tightly synchronised oestrus and ovulation is then achieved by removal of the sponges, after which either natural or fixed-time artificial insemination can take place.

Productivity benefits for farmers following use of the new sponges are likely to be seen as better reproductive planning, leading to significant labour efficiencies and more control over aspects of flock health, such as lamb survival. Other benefits include the flexibility to use fixed-time AI and more efficient use of rams.

Chronogest CR comes in packs of 25, 50 and 100 sponges. Each order will be supplied with an applicator for safe and easy administration.
