NFU Cymru Launches its Assembly Elections Manifesto

NFU Cymru President, Ed Bailey, will launch the organisation’s National Assembly for Wales election manifesto later this month on the mid-Wales dairy farm of Jonathan Wilkinson.

Local representatives from all four of Wales’ main political parties will be present at the launch of NFU Cymru’s election manifesto on 29 March, which sets out the priorities the organisation has identified for the Welsh government’s next term.

Ed Bailey, NFU Cymru President said, "Farming faces a significant twin challenge over the coming years. We need to produce more in order to feed a growing world population whilst impacting less on the natural environment. We look to the next government not only to help nurture the self confidence that is needed within Welsh agriculture to meet these challenges but also to create an environment that will encourage investment, innovation and new entrants, thereby securing farming’s future, and delivering on strategic objectives key not only to farmers but to the Welsh people also."

The launch will take place on the 350 acre Meifod Farm, Dyffryn, of NFU Cymru Montgomeryshire Vice County Chairman, Jonathan Wilkinson.

Jonathan farms in partnership with his mother Beryl and wife Susie (who is also a physio at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital) and has two daughters. Dyffryn is home to the Pendyffryn herd of pedigree Holstein Friesian cows. The family recently invested in a 44-point Westfalia rotary parlour and extra cubicle housing to allow them to expand the herd eventually to around 350 cows. They grow additional forage crops on land nearby and contract rear most of their replacement heifers on a separate holding.
