NFU deputy president is West Mid Show guest

NFU deputy president Peter Kendall will be visiting the West Mid Show this Saturday to meet Shropshire farmers and tour the showground.

Mr Kendall, who has a specialist arable farmer in Eyeworth, Bedfordshire, will be at the Shrewsbury show from mid morning on Saturday and will have lunch as a guest of the Shropshire and West Mid Agricultural Society.

He will also attend a cheese and wine reception in the NFU/NFU Mutual marquee along with NFU members and invited guests at ringside in the early evening.

The two-day show gives the NFU the perfect annual platform to provide refreshments for its members as well as showcasing the best that agriculture has to offer in an educational countryside marquee.

This year's display will be in conjunction with the Shropshire YFC and the theme will centre on the growing push to regenerate rural areas through the formation of county-based organisations known as Rural Hubs.

Victoria Jones, from the Shropshire Rural Hub, will have a stand within the countryside marquee and the NFU will also host the show's official sheep shearing display put on by the British Wool Board.

The countryside marquee will also feature a sow and pigs, chicks, ducks, a poultry display, the Meat and Livestock Commission, a storyteller, Rural Support, British Sugar and Assured Food Standards.

The NFU/NFU Mutual marquee will be serving lunches to members provided by Northwood Hall Catering.

Elsewhere on the showground, the show boasts the most spectacular main arena programme in over thirty years, with an exciting performance by The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.

The troop's Musical Drive features nearly 100 horses and a similar number of troops and will not be seen elsewhere outside London this summer with the troop heavily engaged in many major State occasions.

The show society is also having a big push to recruit more members of the Society, the benefits include a range of year round activities, as well as free entry to the show, privileged showground parking and members areas, including a ringside marquee and bar.

The show itself is a fun filled day out for all the family with a wide range of attractions, including some of the finest livestock in the country preparing for the Royal Show in early July.

The family area encompasses bygone trades and equipment, plus up to date displays of country sports and crafts, together with music, song and dance.

Shropshire on Show represents the best of Shropshire produce and the Women's Institute, plus information on schools and businesses, with particular reference to gardening.

The Livestock Show has the best of sheep, cattle and dairy with judging throughout the two days and a Grand Parade on Saturday - unsurpassed in a county event.

Horse lovers can enjoy displays of riding, jumping, driving and heavy horse turnouts throughout the two days and buy a host of equipment from the trade stands.
