NFU Mutual supports Rural Watch Scheme in Leicestershire

The UK’s leading rural insurer NFU Mutual is fighting rural crime in Leicestershire by supporting a new Rural Watch Scheme, created by Leicestershire Police.

The new scheme has been set up to support rural communities in the fight against rural crime by working with villages, farmers and small businesses to address local issues and concerns. The scheme is open to anyone who lives, works or visits rural locations in Leicestershire and Rutland.

The scheme will be launched on Tuesday 23rd February from 9am – 2pm at Melton Cattle Market on Scalford Road in Melton Mowbray, where people will be able to join the scheme and speak to rural police officers and other experts in the field of rural crime prevention. Clive Harris, NFU Mutual agricultural vehicle security specialist will be there to offer rural crime prevention advice and guidance.

Tim Price, Rural Affairs Specialist at NFU Mutual said: “The Rural Watch scheme is a great opportunity for people to find out more about crime prevention. Rural communities should remain vigilant and put security at the forefront of their minds.”

NFU Mutual’s Rural Crime Survey revealed last year that rural crime cost Leicestershire £750,000 in 2014, with the items most commonly targeted by thieves across the region being quad-bikes, tools and machinery.
