NFU welcomes AWB decision to hold extraordinary meeting

The NFU welcomes the decision by the Chairman of the Agricultural Wages Board to call an extraordinary meeting of the board on October 13, 2006.

The decision, triggered by NFU representations, highlights the controversy surrounding the decision by the Board to modify the calculation of holiday pay.

While welcoming the Chairman's decision to reassess the circumstances under which the decision was taken, the NFU is still pursuing other avenues, including exploring the possibility of a legal challenge.

The NFU is reminding farmers and growers that despite these latest developments, the new Agricultural Wages Order (as adopted in the last confirmation meeting) will come into force as of October 1, 2006.
