OBE for farmers son
Farmer's son Graham Wynn, a Shropshire pioneer of drink drive education which has gained global recognition, has been awarded the OBE for services to road safety.
The director of the TTC Group, with his wife and fellow director Jenny, set up the company in 1993 to trial a new Government initiative to educate convicted drink drivers about alcohol.
In 2000, the Government gave the go ahead to expand the rehabilitation programme nationwide – with TTC at the forefront of the groundbreaking training, working closely with the Department for Transport.
Over the past five years the award winning company has seen phenomenal growth with its training programme praised for reducing drink drive re-offending rates across the UK. TTC is now the largest provider of alcohol education in the UK putting on 800 courses for almost 10,000 offenders in 14 counties each year. Around 400 attend courses each year in Shropshire run at Ludlow, Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry and Whitchurch.
The TTC Group has expanded its training programme into the workforce to encourage businesses to "change attitudes" and ultimately improve road safety among the nation's employees.
Mr Wynn (55), a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, travels the country raising awareness about drink driving and road safety at seminars and conferences for businesses, road safety professionals and magistrates.
A former Telford magistrate, he said he was delighted by the award which was down to wife and co-director Jenny and a dedicated team based at their head office in Central Park, Telford, a regional office in the north-west and trainers from throughout the UK.
"I'm bowled over by the award. But it is all down to our hard working team of professionals who together have helped to put the TTC Group on the map. More importantly they have successfully got over to thousands of people that we can and do have safer roads by educating people."
The father of three, who also has two stepsons, praised his wife Jenny for her tremendous contribution to the company.
"It is a husband and wife team. It is a great partnership in more ways than one."
A farmer's son from Shifnal, Shropshire, Mr Wynn began his working career at Reginald Tildesley's working his way up to director of the Oakley Group during a 28 year career.
