With an increased need to maximise the use of home-grown forage to help improve business efficiency on livestock farms, silage experts Volac are taking a lead by sponsoring this year’s ScotGrass event.

As well as the company’s Ecosyl experts advising on best practice for silage-making on the forage conservation section of the event’s organised Knowledge Trail, the Volac stand will also offer practical information on the latest techniques for minimising silage losses and maximising its feed value.

This will include a focus on the importance of achieving a fast, efficient fermentation for producing consistently better silage.

Meanwhile, for baled silage makers, the stand will also provide an opportunity to help support breast cancer research, with event sponsor Volac using ScotGrass to raise the profile of its pink bale campaign.

This is being repeated following the success of a similar campaign last year, when Volac raised over £10,000 for breast cancer charities from sales of a specially produced pink version of its Topwrap RS1900 silage film. Farmers can also donate to breast cancer research on the stand and receive specially produced pink stickers to demonstrate their support.

The stand will also play host to a competition with chances to win instant prizes including silage additive, silage bale film, jackets, pens and much more.

“Through our research into forage preservation with Ecosyl silage additives, and through technology in bale-wrapping, Volac is committed to helping farmers maximise feed value and minimise uncertainty when making silage,” says Volac regional product manager, Jackie Bradley.

“Accordingly, Volac is delighted to sponsor the ScotGrass event at a time like this when producing top quality conserved forage is so central to farm profitability.”

The ScotGrass event will take place at SRUC Dairy Research Unit, Crichton Royal Farm, Dumfries, Wednesday 18 May.
