Rural farms and businesses that have grown organically with help from Defra and the Rural Development Service (RDS) are backing this year's Organic Week.
The Soil Association's Organic Week runs from September 3 to 11 and everyone can take part. Suggested ideas include visiting organic farms, such as Guilden Gate, in Bassingbourn, near Royston, or Ash Farm, in Bintree, near Dereham, or trying new ways of shopping.
This can include visiting farm shops that stock organic produce, such as Sarah Green's Organic Farm Shop in Tillingham, Essex, or having organic fruit and veggie boxes delivered to your doorstep.
Rural Enterprise Scheme Funding from the RDS has helped organic farms and businesses to grow - including Guilden Gate and Ash Farm.
Nicola Newell, an adviser for the RDS in the East of England, said:
"Going organic can make good business sense for farmers across the region. The Organic Entry Level Stewardship Scheme can provide both conversion and annual maintenance payments to encourage conventional growers to convert to organic production. Rural Enterprise Scheme grants can help organic growers with adding value, sales and marketing. Small local businesses like Cambridge Organic Food Company and Abbey Farm Organics, which both run veggie box schemes, and Beatbush Farms organic meat have all benefited from RES grants.
Enterprise funding has also helped businesses like Big Barn which runs a website to help consumers find their nearest organic outlets."
