The end of Ramadan, has seen the meat trade get back to normal in the butchers shops and markets of Islamabad.

Despite the new city abattoir, butchers are still slaughtering animals at unlicensed premises, then using open carts, to transport the meat to butchers and markets, according to Dr Rasheed Bajwa, who is a doctor at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science.

The doctor said "while 90% of butchers could be selling healthy meat, the others are causing complications in patients of E-coli and gastroenteritis which is of grave concern to the community and we must have the government implement tighter regulations·.

The All Pakistan Butchers Association, president, Khushid Ahmed, has assured the government that the matters will be dealt with.

Ahmed said "butchers are not happy with the prices and the service at the new abattoir, and they do not receive the offal back with the carcass
