LAND REFORM.

The new president of Paraguay, has plans in place for land reform, that will return land to those who were dispossessed of their land, during the 40 years of dictatorship.

This move could have an impact on the expansion of soy production, as Paraguay is now the worlds fourth largest exporter of soy.

Paraguay exported 6.68 million tons of soy last year.

The beef industry will not be effected, as the land in question, should the new legislation be passed, is already being utilized as cattle ranches.

President Fernando Lugo, a former Roman Catholic Bishop, was elected two months ago by a popular vote, based on his land reform promises.

Paraguay was the longest running dictatorship in South America, with the greatest disparity between rich and poor
