Pathologists investigate cause of death for cattle

West Lafayette, Ind. - Purdue University veterinary pathologists are investigating the deaths of a dozen cattle on a Clark County farm, but they don't think the cattle died from either blue tongue virus or epizootic hemorrhagic disease, as has been reported.

Tests are being conducted at the Southern Indiana-Purdue Agricultural Center on tissue samples to pinpoint the cause.

Blue tongue is rare and perhaps nonexistent in Indiana is considered a non-fatal disease, said Duane Murphy, co-director of the diagnostic laboratory.
