Pembrokeshire early potato conference and competition

Pembrokeshire’s successful annual NFU Early Potato Conference is being held at the premises of Puffin Produce Ltd, Withybush, Haverfordwest on Friday, 2 June 2006.

The format will be different this year to last. Jim Godfrey, current Chairman of the Centro International de la Patata (International Potato Centre) and ex-chairman of the Potato Marketing Board and Sentry Farming will give a short presentation on the work of the International Potato Centre. This is a charitable organisation whose head office is in Lima, Peru, and was set up to alleviate poverty and malnutrition and to raise living standards in the developing world.

The event, which will start at 6.30pm for 7pm, will draw together growers, merchants and allied industries in what is one of the oldest conferences of its type and the only dedicated to the early crop.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the announcement of the winners and presentation of the prizes for the crops competition, which has drawn good entries. The competition will have been judged by Edward Morris of Loveston Farm, Merrion, Pembroke.

Everyone interested in the local early potato trade is welcome to attend the conference and light refreshments will be provided.
