THE PHILIPINES-NEW BIOTECH FACILITY.
Carabao Center (PCC) will build a P300-million biotechnology facility in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija to facilitate production of quality livestock breeds, the agency said in a news release last weekend.
The center, which was funded by a United States loan through a three-year research and development program, will cover the production of carabao, cattle, goat, and sheep.
"We were able to get funding for multi-commodity research which allows us to cut across commodities other than just carabao," PCC Executive Director Libertado C. Cruz said in the statement.
The facility will rise beside the existing PCC facility in Muñoz which now has a gene bank.
The facility will have a P20-million DNA sequencer that helps identify animals that have superior traits.
