Philippines-Black Market meat trade.

PHILIPPINES.

BLACK MARKET MEAT.

The Department of Agriculture in the Philippines, is clamping down on the number of animals being slaughtered illegally.

This meat is being openly sold by butchers and in markets, having been slaughtered outside of the government health control system.

Animals slaughtered in licensed abattoirs, are subjected to meat inspectors checking the carcass and offal for disease, whereas the animals slaughtered on farms and brought to the city for sale are not subjected to any controls.

A new task force has been set up and any person found selling unlawful meat, can face a heavy fine plus 6 months in prison.
