Rod Smith the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines announced over the weekend, a deal that has been done with Australia to supply breeding stock goats to the Philippines, to improve the bloodlines of the nations stock.
The deal consists of 1,900 Boer meat goats and 1,200 Dorper sheep that will be shipped in February.
The benefits of the Australian stock, is the heavier carcass as the Boer goats can give you a carcass up to 80 kilos and the Dorper sheep are similar to small yearling cattle or suck calves.
Australia is the largest goat exporter in the world, supplying the markets of South East Asia.
Prices have dropped around 30% in the last two months, this coupled with the low Australian dollar, makes the immediate future for goat meat and live animals look good.
