PHILIPPINES-PORK PROBLEMS.
-- A hog raiser here has challenged lawmakers and law enforcers to publish the names and file charges against sellers of double-dead meat at markets in Balintawak, Quezon City and Pasay City.
Antonio L. dela Torre, hog raiser, said the public should know the identities of these unscrupulous people who are putting the health of the people at great risk.
"These people should be known and punished to life imprisonment to stop their nefarious activities and prevent the public from getting sick and even die," Dela Torre said.
Dela Torre said it is about time the lawmakers of the party-lists representing the livestock sector to file a bill imposing life imprisonment on sellers of double-dead meat.
"The reason these people continue their nefarious trade is that there is no appropriate law that punishes them," he said.
Recently, policemen confiscated double-dead meat being sold at Balintawak market in Quezon City, but the people involved in the illegal activity were not identified.
Danny Aguilar, spokesman of a watchdog group, said the law enforcers should name names so that they would be avoided by market goers.
Aguilar said that the Department of Agriculture should coordinate with policemen and lawmakers in the effort to stop the illegal activity of these unscrupulous traders
