Pirbright foot and mouth report is shocking - Webb

Responding to the findings of the independent inquiry into the foot-and-mouth outbreak last year at Pirbright, Liberal Democrat

Shadow Defra Secretary, Steve Webb said:

"This is a shocking report.

"The many different bodies which have a hand in regulating Pirbright clearly failed in their collective duty.

"Whilst accidents do happen, the evidence here is of a long-term poorly managed establishment.

"What is more worrying is that with Defra slashing its budgets the potential for future outbreaks may actually have increased."
