Plan to turn farmers into agropreneurs

ALOR STAR: A plantations group plans to turn 600 farmers into successful "agropreneurs" over the next five years.

Sime Plantations Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said an agropreneur development course would be introduced in January.

He said the programme would incorporate farm management, post-harvest management, marketing and entrepreneurship training.

Sime Darby Seeds R & D centre, a partnership between Sime Plantations Sdn Bhd and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), will conduct the programme.

"We want to dispel the notion that farming in Malaysia is a job with low returns or for those with little or no education.
