PRGO and Syngenta announce 'Profit from protein production' roadshows

"The 2009 PGRO and Syngenta joint Roadshows will provide a unique opportunity to ask the experts practical questions about growing peas and beans profitably," says Salvador Potter, Chief Executive of PGRO, announcing the series of events to be held throughout the main pulse growing areas. "The focus of this year’s meetings will be to explain to growers and agronomists the compelling economic and agronomic reasons for including legumes in their rotations."

Key areas for discussion will include which markets to consider and, in particular, the key export markets for pulse crops. The meetings will also show how legumes fit into crop rotations and the role of peas and beans as a profitable alternative break crop, as well as economic comparisons of winter vs. spring sowing of beans.

On the practical agronomy front, there will be tips to maximise legume profitability, a look at which varieties deliver the most profit opportunity, and new developments in agronomy.

The meetings will also explain how changes in active ingredient support will impact on fungicide programmes in 2010, and present the Syngenta portfolio for pulse growers in 2010.

The main speakers will Graham Redman of Anderson Consulting, Andy Bury of Frontier, the PGRO team of Salvador Potter (CEO), Anthony Biddle (Pests and diseases), Steve Belcher (Varieties), and Jim Scrimshaw (Herbicide and agronomy), along with members of the Syngenta Crop Protection team.

The meetings will take place in York (Monday 9th November), PGRO near Peterborough (Tuesday 10th November), Thurston near Bury St Edmunds (Tuesday 17th November), Winchester (Wednesday 18th November) and Chipping Norton (Tuesday 24th November). Attendance is free of charge, with all meetings beginning at 4pm for 4.30pm and ending at 6.15pm with a supper.
