Prosecution for possession of unauthorised veterinary medicines

Peter Pippin of Methryr Tydfil was yesterday found guilty of three offences under the Marketing Authorisations for Veterinary Medicinal Products Regulations 1994.

The charges concerned the possession for the purposes of placing on the market of veterinary medicines which did not hold current UK marketing authorisations. All veterinary medicines placed on the market in the UK are required to be authorised by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).

In October 2005 Mr Pippin attended a Cob horse sale at the Royal Welsh Showground, where Police found a large quantity of veterinary medicines in his vehicle.

At a trial on 27 September 2006 at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates' Court, Mr Pippin was given a 2-year conditional discharge and ordered to contribute £5000 towards costs.
