Queen’s visit to Montgomeryshire
Montgomeryshire NFU Cymru officeholders were among the line up to greet the Queen this morning (28 April) at Welshpool Livestock Sales Centre, Welshpool.
Her Majesty and the Duke were invited to the town to visit and unveil a plaque at the new prestigious state of the art auction centre at Buttington cross.
David Jones, Montgomeryshire NFU Cymru County Chairman said, "It was a real honour and privilege to have been at the livestock market today to greet the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. It was an extremely important day for the town - providing a huge boost to both the town and the livestock industry."
For generations Welshpool market has enjoyed an enviable position as one of the leading centres in the country, and for many years being one of the largest centres for sales of prime lamb and breeding sheep in Europe.
David Jones ended, "This substantial investment by the auctioneers has demonstrated their confidence in the agricultural industry and we now have a livestock market which has the capacity to serve this area of Wales and the borders for future generations."
